November 25

Hello, thanks for visiting - I hope that you will find useful information. but also leave a comment if you have any comments on the subject.

Continuation of "navigation design - find the right architecture."

Optically in the creation of navigation systems used very often metaphors. The most well-known metaphor is the metaphor for office operating systems. In contrast to operating systems, no uniform standard for websites has prevailed. Very often highly abstract navigation models used.

Depending on audience and purpose of the site can also quite creative concepts. This could flash cards, bulletin boards, building plans, maps, etc. are used. Importantly, however, that is considered amongst the most creative and unusual variants that can suffer, especially including usability and reliability of a website.

Examples
Most widespread is the index card metaphor, as here, for example by the travel portal Tiscover is used. In addition, there is also still working with geographic maps - a metaphor others.

Sensi Soft
umfunktioniert. In this portfolio, a hoarding is converted into a navigation element. Is somewhat unusual but visually extremely well implemented.

In addition, there are of course many other ways, but mostly they are used very heavily abstracted. The more creative the navigation is designed, the greater the risk that users will be overwhelmed by it. Therefore should always be the target audience and the purpose of the site are respected, because it makes a big difference whether it is an online shop or a self-presentation of a graphic artist.
